Many years ago I was sat in an economy seat on a 747, with people sitting in the exit row in front. 2 other people then turned up, when it became apparent that the same 2 seats had been allocated to 2 different people. The flight attendant arrived and asked the 2 people already seated if they would like to move elsewhere. They said no, as they had paid extra for the exit row. The FA then turned to the other 2 people and said please follow me, we have 2 spare seats in premium economy.
