EDIT: AFAIK the arrival day is day 0. So if I come to England on a Friday and depart on Monday, there's no need to take the test? I rather can save the test when I stay longer?
The guidance says that if you are present in the UK on day 2, then you need to take the test. The SI says you must take it by the end of day 2. If you are not in the UK by the end of day 2, then that obligation must go (I am not a legal expert!). In your example, Friday is day 0 which would make Monday day 3, so you have to take the test.
