Thank you for your reply. I did check the rental car rates and Hertz quoted about USD100 a day, which is expensive, but is also the going rate in most major US cities, so I don't consider it outrageous. Given the prices, we might just rent a car for a day to go from one end of the island to the other -- Oia to Akrotiri.
