Same thing for me. prepaid yesterday after seeing prices plunge $250 for a rental I have been holding for next week. I made this otherwise ill-advised move in hopes that would give me leverage to persuade them to hold a certain model for me (I know, prob not likely, but the trip is def going to happen as its close now -- just a few days out -- and I was willing to gamble slightly as the pre-pay discount helped mitigate risk of missing lower price. And the prices were nearly as low for my dates as I have ever seen them at Sixt except for last fall at mid-pandemic Las Vegas when they were desperate.
But this morning I checked and it had gone down ANOTHER $200 to rates I have not seen since February, maybe because its so close and they now have a clear picture of demand for that period of rental. BUT, cancellation fee is just $100 so worst I can do is get cost down another $100 by cancelling and rebooking.
still... decided it wouldn’t hurt to call and ask for the change free... person who answered said cancellations are free within 24 hours of making the payment, and she handled the cancellation for me. I am skeptical and can’t find this policy on their website anywhere and its not on the cancellation form they sent. But...if it turns out not to be free, I’m still ahead $100 vs what I was willing to pay yesterday.
Honestly, I find Sixt pretty quirky to deal, with but have only had super pleasant dealings with them and talked with unusually good folks on the phone and counters. And some memorable cars -- Jag F-Pace upgrade just because I asked and told them I was willing to take one even if it wasn’t cleaned yet... they laughed and cleaned it quick.... and Volvo v90 Cross Country with turbo AND supercharging....mind you that was an upsell at Vegas so yeah I did get an upsell when I indicated I wouldn’t touch a Cadillac with the pole. But it was $90 more. And geez, $600 for 10 days in a car like that across the desert and the full length of US 1 along the pacific coast...cant beat it.
