Wait what?? Now I'm totally confused by this. They explicitly told me that they couldn't SMS that number. And I see plenty of messages on forums around the internet about banks including Chase refusing to text voip numbers.

Are you sure your number is a Google Voice number? You aren't by chance also signed up for Google Fi? In which case it would show up as a t-mobile mvno number even if you actually use Google Voice to view your text messages. I think Google also has more than one bank of numbers they use due to GV's strange history of being an acquisition. Maybe some of them show up differently from others?

I'm curious, what does your number show up as at https://www.freecarrierlookup.com/

Or maybe Chase is doing something more fine grained than "voip bad". Maybe they're looking up the subscriber information for the number in some database and I'm not showing up there for some reason?
