I would never check a bag at MIA with 2 hours between flights.
So you would NOT do a two hour connection in Miami, coming in from an international flight, if you are checking a bag? Since you have to go through immigration, get your bag, go through customs, re-check your bag, and then go through security?
I thought that the security check to go back into the secure area (after arriving on an international flight, leaving security to collect bag, going through Customs, and re-checking your bag) was a dedicated security checkpoint that was quicker than the normal security checkpoints to get into the secure area.
If I am on two separate tickets (as long as there is no line at the AA re-check counter right after Customs in the re-check area), it shouldn't take but a couple minutes longer than if I am on a continuous ticket.
