Buyer Beware- TK Will Not Refund Refundable Ticket Upon Their Flight Cancellation

Like the title says.

I directly booked on the TK website several business class flights back in January during the three day sale they had. All USA->IST->Various destinations. Two bookings were successfully flown albeit I had to rebook each after some leg cancellations which was a hassle. This last booking, to be flown in three weeks, had two of four legs canceled by TK and I had no other options to rebook. Received email from TK saying in first sentence two legs were canceled.

The tickets originally were *refundable*. So first I tried to refund this booking on their website and received an error it could ot be processed online and to call the call center. I called the call center, not once but twice on different days. Same response- they tried to refund but claimed their system errored out and they could not refund, and that I should instead go to a TK ticket office! The closest TK office is a four hour drive from where I live. Reiterating- original purchase was direct from TK website.

They strongly tried to steer me to either converting the value into points, or to vouchers +15%. I have no desire to lend them my $$$$ until I find something new.

I have zero qualms to file a chargeback in a situation as egregious as this and that is exactly what I did today. Side note- chargeback rep said 50% of her submissions are airlines, wow.

Moral of the story, Buyer Beware now with TK. If things go pear-shaped with your booking through no fault of your own, you will receive the "TAP Air Portugal" treatment from TK and have to file a chargeback if you want your money back. Sad and unfortunate to see TK go down this ethically-bankrupt path on top of having some of the worst flight crews I have had on international flights in the past year. Point of reference- I fly TPAC/TPOL/TATL J several times per month every month for several years. Good luck to all...
