Is rude appropriate? No, but it's sometimes understandable. Whatever the rationale, the lounge has a "one drink at a time" rule and the bartenders are required to enforce it. I would imagine their tolerance of those who deliberately skirt the rule has worn a bit thin, particularly given the crowd this particular lounge attracts.
