I was clarifying what seemed to be confusion, which is the point of this forum. I did not address the morality, legality, or propriety of the fraudulent statement.
Someone asked if a charge qualified.
It does not.
Someone else said "is this a change because I lied and said a nonqualifying charge was a qualifying one."
There was no change, of course.
(And of course, as anyone on Flyertalk for a long time can attest, abuse of a benefit of a credit card or loyalty program does impact others, because it often leads to changes in the benefit. The benefit is crafted as it is based on an assumption of a certain breakage. If it was an "any charge made by an airline" benefit, the calculus for the bank would change. It has nothing to do with interchange fees.)
