I am just having my coffee and reading the Winnipeg Free Press account of the new airport project.

The architect is Cesar Pelli whose firm designed the Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur. Pelli has experience in airports having designed the North Terminal at DCA and the East passenger terminal at NRT.

A principal at the firm stated that, although it is too early to tell what the new building will look like, Pelli wants to incorporate some truly Manitoban characteristics, including an abundance of blue sky and sunlight and a horizon that stretches as far as the eye can see.

Pelli's primary contribution to the project will be in the design of the building's form and character.

Stantec Architecture Ltd. will focus on the functionality of the building including structural and mechanical systems. Stantec has designed eight other airports in Canada.
