I know the westbound CZ gets a lot of attention starting in Denver. Where does this scenic portion end, though?

I am thinking of a Denver to Grand Junction trip for a few days in Black Canyon + Mesa Verde. When I get back to GJ, though ... should I go east back to Denver? Or is there more to see going west towards SLC?
