Everyone has posted good advice.
But please know that Gold is Gold and the same price anywhere in the world - you will never buy at less than it's intrinsic value... price difference is in the workmanship, overhead etc.
The world is a small place now,- and the Jewelry world is even smaller.
Dealers all over the world have (high end) pieces on consignment, most do not own their inventory, a large, investment quality diamond (over 5 cts.) is passed around thru the dealer's "world" - they all know what is "out there" and will not sell at less than value. .
Gold and Diamonds are just like money - you cannot get a discount on a $10 bill!!!
Do some reading, and a lot of looking, and then buy what you like and always reach for the best (quality & workmanship) that you can afford - Do not be misled by "appraisals". Don't look for a "Bargain price"... there is no such thing!!!
