Marriott and Avis

I posted this yesterday in a separate thread, but that one is slowly drifting down the board whilst this thread looks like it will live for ever! So, for the benefit of newbies in six months time, I am repeating the post.

For reasons I don't fully remember, I was flicking around the Tesco website and looked at the terms of the Marriott and Avis partnership deals. In turns out that you are, in general, better off crediting your Marriott and Avis transactions to Tesco and then letting Tesco turn them into BA Miles!

For example:

Marriott full-service hotels:
Crediting stays to BA earns 3 miles per $1 spent
Crediting stays to Tesco earn 1.5 points per $1 spent which is 3.6 miles

Marriott limited service hotel brands:
Crediting stays to BA earns 1 mile per $1
Crediting stays to Tesco earns 1 point per $ which is 2.4 miles

Avis:
BA Blue earns 500 miles per rental, BA Silver earns 625 miles per rental
Tesco members earn 1 point per £1 spent. Therefore, a Blue is better off crediting the rental to Tesco if they spend over £208 and a Silver if they spend over £260.

Note that Avis has its own AWD discount code you need to quote, so you also need to compare the rate that pulls up with the avisba.com rate.
