Had the same concern, but my wife's expiry date is rapidly approaching and I'm not at all confident the NEXUS enrollment centres will be reopening anytime soon. This way, at least the name gets updated on the US side which is enough to go ahead and file for renewal through the TTP website.
I filed for renewal in February, but that application is still awaiting preliminary approval. Not sure why it's taking so long. My naturalization and name change were in April, and my new US passport was issued this month.
I did notice that my driver license dropped off the TTP portal entirely when it expired. (I had to get a temporary extension while waiting for my passport; now I've also found out the DMV here won't update my name on my driver license before I first get my SSA record updated. Gotta love bureaucracy.)
