Had the same concern, but my wife's expiry date is rapidly approaching and I'm not at all confident the NEXUS enrollment centres will be reopening anytime soon. This way, at least the name gets updated on the US side which is enough to go ahead and file for renewal through the TTP website. And presumably the information submitted on the renewal application gets synced up anyways.
