this…precisely.
while I’m not a fan of the Chase fee increase with almost zero additional benefits, this is one item where I feel I’ll lose big time if I drop that card. At least rental car, you can pay a relatively small amount for primary on Amex. Can’t get around the common carrier requirement (and putting the full amount, and it needing to be round trip) with Amex.
in fact, last time I used this coverage with Chase was to cover hotel from a road trip. Basically, was doing a road trip CVG to ORD (this is not worth flying, especially with 4), and the night before (past cancelation deadline), the little one had a high fever and ear infection. Hotel initially agreed to not charge me but accounting office wouldn’t approve it. Chase covered it. That would not be covered by Amex.
next week, doing a road trip, with most hotels having a 2 or 3 day cancelation policy. So again, Amex would not cover this if something crops up the night or two before.
