That's a good tip. I'm hauling an old laptop over to Europe next month to give to a friend. I WAS planning on shipping it in checked luggage as I'll already be carrying my regular laptop in my carry-on.

If the airport doesn't have a CTX then it would be ETDed. All I can tell you is request ETD search only and insist on locking the bag. Can't tell you if this will happen since I don't know where you are going out of nor there set up.
