After all, most airlines don't offer web access for free, so I'm still stuck with whatever I downloaded ahead of time or what the airline offers with whatever setup they have if I don't want to pony up extra for full web access.
Now, if an airline decided to use the money saved on seatback screens for free web access, particularly access robust enough to allow streaming, I'd probably consider that a selling point. But if it's just BYOD versus seatback screens, but with the same content? Give me the seatback screen.
I'm 24 and I agree with you. I don't like using my own device since my phone screen is relatively small. Of course I could take out my laptop from the overhead bin, but that would be such a hassle even in first class. If they really think it's too much weight to install seat back screens, maybe AS should follow what CM does on their max 9, install seat back screens only in first class and premium class so they can differentiate the products a little bit more. AS is a regional airline, I love flying AS, but I always joke about this "89-year-old airline that doesn't have lie-flat, doesn't have widebodies, doesn't have seat back screens, doesn't fly out of North America, doesn't have apple juice (!) yet still more enjoyable than flying AA"
