I called them again, but they wouldn't budge. This time the CS rep said they can't reroute me on one of their Star Alliance partners because their agreement with them doesn't apply when they have canceled the flight. I guess my next step is to try and get them to send me written documentation that I was not offered a re-routing and then I'll seek compensation later. Sorry, this is unacceptable. Call again and ask for a supervisor. As Oliver said, rerouting to FRA or MUC wouldn't be any issue at all. But they have the duty to transport you to STR. That is what you paid for, it is for them to figure out how. If they decide to cancel those flights for good, they need to make sure to accommodate the passengers which were booked on those. Don't be nice on the phone, be very specific what you want, and tell them you won't accept anything less than either getting to STR or if acceptable for you to MUC.
And yes, if they still won't give in, have them give you a written statement that they
won't follow the rules and chose to ignore the EU Passenger rights, then follow up with claiming the extra costs you have.
