One night stay on a Saturday night when the Giants were playing. This is an important fact to note, as it significantly impacts the hotel due to the proximity of the ballpark, about a ten minute walk straight down 2nd Street.
Booked base level King room morning of arrival, saw in the app mid-afternoon I'd been upgraded to a 1 BR suite. Impressive, as there had been no suites for sale. Short wait to check-in, as lobby was already filling with Giants' game attendees. The agent was none too experienced (failed to mention the upgrade, which is a big miss from a marketing perspective) but pleasant enough. Proactively offered 4 pm checkout, choice between 1000 points and $10 F&B credit, and was advised breakfast was at the coffee bar in the corner of the lobby.
The lobby is a big space with lots of seating and a small bar, plus an exterior courtyard area with additional seating. Modern decor, a little cheap looking, but still appealing enough. Scene in front on 2nd Street was a mess the entire stay, as the valets do a poor job keeping the spaces in front of the hotel clear. Game traffic (gridlock) doesn't help.
Suite on the 9th floor was pretty nice. Spacious with a big gray sectional sofa and wet bar area in the living room, good sized bath with shower, and a separate bedroom. Bed was pretty soft, but not unacceptably so. Didn't love the black/white/gray color scheme, and the room was a bit dark (small windows) but overall it was very comfortable. Location was on corner of 2nd and Folsom, with occasional traffic noise, but overall pretty quiet. Windows can be cracked open.
The place was pretty much a madhouse after the game, with a long line for elevators. Everyone was good natured and I didn't mind. Staff handled the crowd pretty well. Lobby was also a mess in the morning, with a long line at the coffee bar and throngs of guests all trying to check out at the same time.
Breakfast offerings were very limited, consisting of pastries, yogurt/granola, boiled eggs, etc. I was up early and beat the crowd; there's no way I would have waited more than five minutes for these offerings. Not entirely clear what the elite breakfast benefit was.
Location is freeway convenient, though the one-way streets mean you have to consider the approach carefully. It's not your liveliest or most charming area otherwise, consisting mostly of new high rise offices and apartments/condos, with ground floor retail targeting either the business lunch or pre/post Giants' game crowd. The area around the hotel was notably free of homeless; certainly much better than Market Street/Union Square areas.
I made the mistake of trusting the seemingly knowledgable agent who checked us out, and did not review a print of my bill. Of course they failed to take off the $8.50 breakfast charge

Have an email in to the Guest Services Manager to get that resolved.
Overall, I was pleased with the stay and would definitely return, as none of the other Hyatt/Marriott options in SF are particularly outstanding, and all have their issues.
