And it’s not an all or nothing situation. OP could keep a strategic reserve of (for example) 1.5 million points and redeem the rest.
Hard agree. People keep talking about these 5+ CPPs but this is just not worth it for many people. Very seldom do I make concrete travel plans 1 year out. Being limited in timing/group size for flights is also very annoying. I would rather burn my MR at a fixed 2 CPP whenever and however I want vs. spending my time searching for saver space on a trip I may decide to simply not take.

There are always very cheap deals for things but I don’t need to go bargain hunting constantly to feel satisfied with the deals I find simply. At a certain point time & flexibility >>>>>>>>> points (and frankly, money).
