first time I called they resubmitted the application. after 2 days it came back same status.
called and was told was approved for the previous (Vanilla) card so this application was denied. I asked why, waited on hold a bit, and they said it was because the previous card was within the last 90 days.
will try again in 2 months and see if it goes through or if it may be impossible to hold both a regular and Schwab Platinum card now.
