You are correct - on the longhaul flight they did provide a free bottle of water at the very beginning of the flight.
There was no miscommunication on the BER-CPH flight - I was told if I wanted water I had to pay for a bottle, there was no poured into a cup option.
Just checked the website, seems that either I remembered wrongly or water has been removed as an option. :-/ Not very appealing.
