If TV Japan (NHK) is doing the same stunts now as they did in the past, it's useless for sports.

Due to exclusivity and distribution rights, they cannot even show any brief clips or stills of local games on the news channel and put some interstitial on the screen to cover that segment.

Since NBC has the rights in the US for broadcast, I really do not think there will be any coverage. NHK World (the free version) - when you watch that you'd hardly know there was an Olympics going on at all.

What works for me is a VPN service with servers in Japan. This gets by any geoblocking and I can watch whatever NHK is broadcasting live at the moment.
