Hoping someone has some words of wisdom for us. We have 2 trips booked with AZ, both with business class awards, both with Amex MR points transferred to MM. The first leaves Boston on Oct 7 (so far so good) but returns on Oct 22 . It will be/would have been our first vacation in 3 years. The second trip is in March 2022.

Should we cancel March and Oct 22, hope that Alitalia returns the miles to my account quickly, and then try to book on a SkyTeam partner? I do realize that the redemption will be much worse than the 80,000 miles for r/t business on AZ, but at this point, so what?

OTOH, it took AZ a month to credit my miles when we had to cancel a trip last year. Also, I don’t know if there even is any availability on the partner airlines to get us back to Boston on or about Oct 22.

Alitalia?? I’ve made a few calls this week and get variations on “we do not know anything.” One rep said they should have information very soon. Another said maybe there would be information about October flights in late August! None of the articles in the Italian media give a definite answer about what will happen to the MM program or to flyers in our position.

What are you other award ticket flyers doing/thinking? Any advice?
