I’ve booked plenty of these and never had the 1 night deposit actually get charged.

The only time I’ve seen deposits actually get charged in advance of a stay has been at Zivas where they charge the full amount 14d before arrival. But when I’ve made bookings <14d before arrival date I haven’t been charged at all until check in, which makes me think the process is somewhat automated at the Zivas, at least.
