I drilled down a bit in their website and found that "Economy Smartium counts as a preferred seat, which must be the problem. That's frustrating, because I'd like to be able to fall back on the extra legroom if the business class doesn't clear (and I can't exactly have my employer un-buy the preferred seat, as far as I know).
I'm going to ask at check in tomorrow if there's any way to buy an upgrade, especially since it looks like there will be plenty of open business seats. So we'll see how that goes
