Both Hyatt GLOB and MR PLT will get you breakfast and a few other benefits. If you were coming in January, I'd recommend the W Lakeshore, as it's near the Polar Bear Club Plunge, usually Oak St beach. Though the after-party is the best part. Another Marriott that people seem to like is the AC-Blackstone near the park, not far from the CAA.

For Hyatt choices, there's the Park Hyatt, which, especially in December, is the most convenient for eating and drinking, without too much walking, plus it's close to the Red Line Chicago station. I'm trying out the CAA and Thompson in October, so can't really say more than they both sound great, though the Loop is pretty dead. The Centric MM while nice and fairly conveniently located except for public transportation is too noisy especially at night as it's close to the NWern Med Center and Hospital, so ambulances coming and going. I've also stayed at the Hyatt Regency near Michigan Ave. Goood location, just so-so property.
