I have only had one stay at a hotel since the pandemic started. It was at a Ritz for a two night staycation early in the year and it was quite good. The club lounge was open but limited in its offerings. That said, I have been looking around the east coast or Midwest for someplace to go next week. Prices are extremely high regardless of the brand. Moreover, the reviews are devastating even on Marriott’s own website. “Worst experience ever.” “Avoid this hotel at all costs.” “ Service nonexistent.” It seems that there is huge pent up demand and hotels are not staffed to handle. It will be interesting to see what happens in September when school starts. The demand may evaporate with business travel no where near where it was and families not traveling. Hopefully then we can return to some level of normalcy. Then perhaps Marriott may find a renewed appreciation for its elites. Right now they don’t have to care.
