Just came through this thread as I was looking for more info on this same case. As it happens, I had recently booked an award on Aeroflot for SVO-FRA, which I had to cancel. I did so I believe around a week before the intended departure date and, to my surprise, I got both my miles and the taxes/fees refunded.
