Yes, you could book one of their flights via Delta or Air France and you would technically be protected, but why deal with a potentially undesirable schedule change if you don't need to? Another "if" is whether ITA will be flying the Paris-Rome route, which is well-covered by Air France. There are just too many unknowns at this point. I myself am booked on AZ Rome-LAX at the end of September using Alitalia miles and I'm slowly allowing myself to accept it just may happen.
I was booked on the LA-FCO flight and return, mid-August to mid-Sept, but using DL - when I saw things falling apart, I called and had it rebooked. Extra stop on the return (via JFK), but I’d rather this for peace of mind. Is there a possibility of doing that, even w/ AZ mille miglia points? I hope they keep this flight and stay with sky team, regardless, as I like the long leg and prefer AZ service in J (well, pre-covid - these times all bets are off!)
