I tried the one OP experienced yesterday in a dummy SEA-LAX booking on an A320 and it’s still there. Elite can choose starred seats or saver seats, but not main cabin seats. The error that correctly pops up when trying to chose main cabin seats doesn’t appear for starred seating.
