As a recent transplant to the coast of Maine, I see a lot of license plates from NY & MA. There are lots of folks who come up every summer (the flights are packed coming up here on the weekend, not always so the other direction). But I think a lot of people just drive, and if you're not paying for airfare & car rental, maybe $1800 for a weekend at a limited-service hotel instead of $900-1200 is acceptable, who knows. Or maybe everyone is staying on points and the hotels are just jacking up rates to get max reimbursement. I don't think so, though... I think people are actually paying.
