Was just searching for an award stay in Athens for 2020 and I noticed the Academia went up from a Cat. 5 to a Cat. 6! They are delusional based on my stay there to think they are worth 50k a night. Anyone in their right mind will pay the extra 10k and stay at the Grand Bretagne.
I’ve personally stayed at the King George’s, Grand Bretagne, and now the Academia Hotel and loved everything about each hotel. However from an Award standpoint, I would definitely splurge for the GB.
From a cash standpoint I only paid 100€ for my reservation at the Academia whereas both KG/GB wanted 300€ or thereabouts so it was a no brainer to give this hotel a try for an one night stay in Athens.
The Titanium recognition was superb despite no upgrades being available even though the App was still selling the Executive and Suite at time of check in. The front desk apologized and explained that a large group had booked the hotel but I didn’t see the group so who knows?
Breakfast in the restaurant on the main floor was superb and excellent compared to my breakfast in Amsterdam the previous day. Also the rooftop bar has excellent Japanese food that was very impressive in addition to the views of the Acropolis in the evening.
I would definitely stay at this hotel again if it came to saving money over the other options in Athens.
