I opened a Flex last October, (but I viewed it as an 80K UR SUB since the 12K grocery 5X first year was so easy to MS*, or category change).
Citi has a new product that pays 5X on the biggest category each month, (capped @ $500/month, but automatic and no AF). This might be worthwhile for your $350/month grocery spend?
Good morning. Excellent timing, I just logged onto my Chase accounts, was surprised by what I saw, thought I should report it here.
To answer your question, this CSP was a new account. In the spirit of TMI once again (some folks here seem to be interested in the nitty gritty details), opened a CSP in July 2016 (had to become CPC a few months prior to bypass 5/24, wish that still worked), opened a CSR a couple of months later (no 48 month rule at that time and it was a promoted new product), closed the CSP in Dec 2016 (yes risky but couldn’t justify 2 Sapphire cards and at that time the benefits of CSR justified keeping it open).
Closed the CSR 8 months ago, applied for this CSP exactly 30 days later, pending, immediate preemptive recon call, moved some credit limit around, approved, minimum spend/bonus met on first statement, minimal spend since, not enough bonus categories.
You’re correct. My surprise was the 5/12ths annual fee credit which posted within 12 hours of “upgrading”(to me) PC phone-call while account still listed as a CSP on the website. During the PC call yesterday, I was told I could continue to use the old card until I received the new card in a few days. I asked when the new bonus structure would be effective, was told could be 3-4 days for the computer to update.
Thanks for the Citi suggestion, I’ve actually thought about a Citi card for a while. I successfully churned some TY cards several years ago (all points transferred to Hilton and accounts closed within 8-12 months). Still have a note to myself (which may no longer be true) “Citi Prestige annual fee refund prorated at account close, so apply at end of year, 2 years airline credit, xfer points, cancel”. But Citi products do not interest me right now because of 5/24, no current Citi transfer partner accounts, loathe to open ANOTHER loyalty program account and cashback not appealing to me. 5/24 demands that we pick and choose our
battles applications/bonuses wisely, absent 5/24 I could go for a Citi card which offers 5% on groceries.
Question for you: What do you mean by “or category change”? Thank you.
