Fun fact indeed! Though it would seem Volotea presently requires passengers who have not purchased their "Priority Boarding" to check their larger cabin baggage. It's free of charge, but their website also suggests the max weight of these two pieces (personal item + larger cabin bag) is 10kg.
Your point is still correct that Volotea offers a bit more baggage, but it's not exactly the same thing as "2 pieces in cabin for free" as some airlines around the world would offer. (I mean of course not, it's an LCC haha.)

I think codeshare means, if you buy your ticket from Aegean, you have to deal with Aegean rules. The same with Volotea.
