Keeping Delta out seems impossible as it's already here - most of the new cases in Germany and France have been Delta for the past few days. That said, 2020 has taught us that you really cannot rule out anything, particularly in Germany, which has been extremely cautious about border openings since the very beginning. The US seems very comfortable with its travel ban on Europeans and talks about lifting it seem to be heading nowhere, so I could also see the EU use Covid as an excuse to reciprocate and ban Americans' entrance after the summer.

For travelling beyond August I would book everything refundable.
