Thompson Seattle stay on 4th of July
Check In Booked a two night stay over the 4th of July weekend, Saturday to Monday. We booked a 1 King Bed w City View. Our flight was scheduled to land at 10am, so I preemptively contacted the hotel by phone (no answer) and email the day prior. I inquired about availability of early check-in and other things. While no one picked up the phone, my email got a reply fairly quickly. The rep mentioned that no guarantees of early check-in were made in advance, and I should inquire about check-in upon arrival. He did note on my reservation of my anticipated arrival time: 11am.Upon arrival I was greeted by the valet and door man. I checked-in and requested early check-in. The FD agent mentioned it would be a short wait, and recommended we take the time to see the city while they held our bags. They would text us when the room was ready. We went on to stroll Pike Place and had a coffee. A bit before noon we were notified that our room was ready. We formally check-in, retrieved our luggage, and received our room keys. No mention was made of my status (Explorist) or any of the benefits I was afforded. No biggie, I really only wanted the free water, and I fully exptected water to be in our room so we proceeded to head upstairs as we had a tour booked in less than two hours. It should be noted that the FD staff was helpful, but with a tone of indifference. It wasn't off-putting, just very professional but not warm or welcoming. Room First impressions was the room was small, minimal, but very clean. The dark tones, art and furniture choices were very nice, however. This is a very cool hotel. I was wrong about free water waiting for me in my room, the only water in the room was tagged for sale for a measly $9.Anyway, I'll let the pictures do the talking:King bed ate up pretty much all the space. Two very small side tables to put our stuff on. The bed was very firm, as we like. We got excellent sleep here. Earplugs were provided, but we never needed them. Despite the city location, and proximity to the elevator this room was quiet.Desk, mini fridge, and luggage table. Other than the bed, the desk chair shown was the only other place to sit. This room is a bit tight for anything other than sleeping. I would not recommed working or lounging in this room. Given Seattle recent heatwave (which we missed), the AC was excellent and kept the room cool all day and night.View of closet. As part of the destination fee you are afforded use of this kettle and coffee/tea tray. Given Seattle's coffee culture, I was very disappointed with this offering. The coffee is made tea style, and either makes overly acidic, strong coffee, or weak, tasteless coffee. I hated this. More on the destionation fee later.Bathrobe was a nice touch. Wore these every chance I got. Not shown, two pairs of very cozy slippers were provided. I wear size 10-11, and they were a bit tight, but worked for me.The bathroom was larger than what I expected. Counter space was tight, but for its location, I thought it was decent and fit all our stuff. The lack of a full partition between the shower and the rest of it was weird at first, but we ended up not minding it at all. The rainfall shower was fantastic, and somehow the water managed to remain confined to the shower. The toiletries all featured a sandalwood scent by D.S. & Durga, which I enjoyed very much. My fiance complimented me on the scent, but it is definitely a manly scent. Service I found the service at this hotel to be excellent despite my other comments about the FD staff. As my photo of the closet showed, only one robe was provided. I called the front desk and requested a second robe. It was promptly delivered to our door.Later, we requested a razor, which was also delivered to our door within minutes of requesting. As previously mentioned, no water was provided upfront, but a quick visit to the front desk solved that issue. In fact, the second day as I was asking for water I noticed a mini fridge at the front desk which had sparkling wine in it. I jokinly told the FD agent if I could get one of those instead for free, she laughed and offered us a glass free of charge. It was a nice gesture that she didn't have to do, as I believe it's typically reserved for VIPs/globalists. I noticed this agent was much friendlier so I took this opportunity to request a late-checkout. She mentioned that I was guaranteed a 2pm check-out because I was an Explorist.Given the many options outside the hotel, we did not eat at the onsite restaurant, so I cannot comment on the service there. Location A quick review of Google Maps will tell you this hotel's location is as good as it gets in the city. We walked everywhere and we felt we were never more than a few minutes away from our room. Pike Place Market is literally a block away. Excellent restaurants, bar and breweries nearby. Overall This was an excellent stay. Our room was ideal for a weekend getaway. If our room was larger and had a couch or chaise, it would make it just that much better. My only real gripe with this hotel is the destination fee of $25/night. It is a money grab, and for a hotel of this caliber it is honestly insulting. Per the website, these are the perks of paying this fee:Premium Wi-Fi :eyeroll:Local coffee & tea service from 6-10am After trying the in-room coffee option I was hoping this was much better. But it was just mediocre drip coffee from a giant dispenser.In-room Fellow coffee system An absolute joke.Tickets to attractions/experiences Did not inquire or useBlowouts at local salon UghPriority access to Nest rooftap bar This was probably the most insulting part of the destination fee. The Nest is one of the most popular rooftop bars in Seattle, and for a reason. The view is stunning, and the setting is very nice. However, it is by reservation only and books out fairly quickly in advance. There are zero tables or couches reserved for hotel guests. So you really only have priority to be told that you cannot be accomodated, but you are welcome to take your $20 cocktail to drink in your room. Absolutely ridiculous that they would charge for this privilege as part of the destination fee, and advertise it as such.Other useless thingsIf you're a globalist or on an award stay, this won't be an annoyance. But destination fee aside, this as close to a perfect home base hotel in the city with great, but small rooms. I will be back in the future, hopefully as a globalist.
