You can also lobby for a Star Alliance EWR-BOG-GYE change. BOG is a much better place to layover than PTY. I fly to GYE yearly so I have a good handle on it. The other thing to consider is EWR-SAL-GYE (but I'm not sure when the EWR-SAL AV flight returns) (SAL is a very small airport) so the transfers are super easy and they have an adequate enough lounge for a 2 hour layover (anything is better than PTY until the new COPA club opens which has been a running joke with how long) .

I miss the direct LATAM JFK-GYE flights (that was worth going to JFK for) but they look to be a thing of the past.
