On those facts, and assuming the OP didn't come onto that flight hot, its overly cautious.

I can't imagine he/she is causing any trouble if they're sitting there watching a couple of movies.
The difference is I have no idea of how that person drinking quickly will act once he/she has had a number of drinks in them. And if they start acted badly (and don't assume that behavior is limited only to coach paxs) then all paxs might have to suffer the consequences of a diversion or being held up while authorities board upon arrival. I'm not defending how FAs might handle it or the lies they might tell but I also understand it's not something that 99.9% of FAs get a joy in handling.

It's an airplane not an all you can drink $10 college special. Moreover, if there are more incidents we are going to find air travel "dry" in the premium cabin.

Again, as I've said before the far, far more bigger problem are the airport bars that will serve people even when they are showing negative signs. I see it at MIA all the time and hence why MIA seems to have a brawl or more a week. To think that GAs will always catch and prevent overly intoxicated paxs from boarding is a fantasy. But booze is big profit for airport bars and restaurants and airport authorities aren't going to challenge that. Instead they will throw the hassle onto the airlines to deal with.
