Was your HA leg booked with HA or DL code? Just trying to figure out if issue is with marketing of leg? I remember being shocked it worked, I didn't think it would. I also wonder if fact we were in F and wouldn't need to pay fees mattered.
The flight I took ~5 years ago from KOA I believe was all DL coded (don’t remember exactly but it was likely DL coded as generally the paid tickets book into the DL coded flight while award tickets book via the HA code) but I doubt being in F pays a factor if you can check in at the Kiosk or not. It also made me mad that we had to go to the counter as I didn’t have to check any bags and the HA agent insisted I put all my carry on bags on the scale to put a sticker to note they were to be under 25lbs (I was told this was apparently a rule). One of the carry on bags ended up being around 27lbs and the agent insisted I paid to check my bag and I told her I would just take some items out to make it weigh less but she kept trying to insist I couldn’t do this until I threatened to get a supervisor involved when she agreed to let me do so. Ironically when I got to the gate, I saw several carry-ons that had no sticker on them so the entire rule seemed ridiculous in my opinion.
