You don’t want to walk to the motel if you’re lugging a lot of luggage and/ or have walking issues. If you leave your check-in bags at the airport and can walk normally (including up stairs), you’ll be ok.
Take a taxi for $20 or whatever it is to the motel, then walk down the hill in the morning to your connecting island flight.
