I have a Frankenstein BA J ticket (cash booking) that was originally SFO-LHR-MXP-LHR-ORD-SFO, that became SFO-LHR-MXP-LHR-SFO, and has now evolved into SFO-ORD-MAD-MXP/GVA-MAD-LAX-SFO due to cancellations. I was recently informed that BA5379 on 31 July (LAX-SFO) has been cancelled, but it still appears that the operating carrier flight AA3258 remains for sale in numerous fare classes, as well as AS1243 later that evening. I rang BA, thinking that perhaps only the codeshare was cancelled, and that they could put me on the same flight under the AA flight number. They informed me that the flight was showing as cancelled in their system, and couldn't get me anything from LAX-SFO until late the next day. Wanting to take this as an opportunity to find something better across the pond, there are almost no oneworld flights from GVA/ZRH/MXP to SFO with 2 stops or less and 2 in J on Saturday, July 31st (outside of Qatar, which they told me is a non-starter). I'm trying to figure out:
1) If the AA flight will actually be cancelled or if for some reason it is still flying and BA can't see it
2) Why the AS flight or anything earlier on Sunday morning form LAX-SFO aren't options, or
3) perhaps there is a different routing altogether that would work?
Appreciate your thoughts.
