on a side note, not being able to check in prevents you from seeing where you are on the upgrade list for the DL segment which is annoying. I assume once you check in to the kiosk you display on the delta app list?
When I did HA to DL on a 006 DL stock, I wasn’t even able to check in at the HA Kiosk and had to go to the counter even though I wasn’t checking any bags. As far as paid UGs with HA at check-in, I doubt space will still be available. From what I’m reading on HAs website, HA Platinums get complimentary UGs at T-24 check-in and this comes out of the same fare bucket for the non-HA elite $50 inter-island DOD UG. If you really want free bags, your best bet would be to re-price your DL ticket to originate out of HNL and purchase a separate cheap WN inter-island flight to HNL and give yourself 3-4 hours of “layover” to re-check your bag with DL. There is a chance however the HA bag fees could be cheaper than this and you will just have to do the math and figure out what is the cheapest option for you.
