Fairmont Chateau Whistler
- Name of the hotel: Fairmont Chateau Whistler
- What is your ALL status? Gold at the time of stay
- Were you (or for multi-stayers were you generally) happy with the hotel/stay? I have mixed feelings with the hotel. Status recognition isn't very good. I had to ask for the drink voucher, and they gave me a one that was pre-printed with my name on it, which I found very stingy. No upgrade. I like the location of the hotel. The restaurant (Wildflower) is nice and the staff was nice.
- Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive? Booked Deluxe room with Mountain view. No upgrade.
- How are the rooms? Seems like bathroom have been renovated at some point, but the room themselves are old looking. The sofa is way too soft for my liking.
- What was good and what was bad?
Good:
Good value for the drink voucher.
I personally like the hotel location on Blackcomb, a short walk away from the village and its crowd and noise.
Restaurant is nice, but can get crowded, especially for breakfast where they don't accept reservation (the buffet is back). You can always go to to Portobello if you want to grab something quickly.
Bad:
Had to request the drink voucher.
No upgrade.
Rooms are looking old, feels kinda expensive for what you get.
- Did you get club lounge access? How was the lounge? Lounge is only accessible with Gold Floor booking, which wasn't my case.
- What about welcome drinks, welcome amenities or any other special perks?
Had to request the drink voucher.
There was a (local) chocolate tablet in the room, which was good. But I'd rather have gotten some fruits or something fresh because of the heat wave.
- Value for $ or Vouchers? Would you return?
I was able to redeem the drink voucher for ~$20 cocktail at the Mallard Lounge, which I found was a good value.
If I had to be in Whistler again, I would probably return, but maybe get a gold floor room if the price difference feels right.
