Le Meridien Bodrum = I Would Return But Only in Winter
Introduction I had a short stay at Le Meridien Bodrum which is a good deal for 40k points per night in high season especially this year with room rates in beach resorts in Europe being quite expensive. My main takeaway was that LM is a decent hotel with quality on par with the brand however the location is far from ideal for people who want to actually visit Bodrum. I realize most people do not travel to Bodrum in the winter but that’s probably when the hotel offers the best value, rather than in the summer. Location LM is closer to the airport and not close to the Bodrum peninsula itself. The resort is also quite far off the main road so you end up in a remote corner on the coast without much around so most guests will be captive and Bodrum city is still more than 40 minutes away with traffic in high season. The advantage of the location is that the resort is very expansive and does not feel cramped at all with various facilities on the property. Room I received a two-category room upgrade to “deluxe seaview with sofa”, one short of the junior suite which was not available at time of check-in so unfortunately no suite upgrade possible. The room was fine although clearly not luxurious with some parts being low(er) quality but nothing unacceptable. The views were nice but as Bodrum is famous for its views many hotels have rooms with great views as well, so it was not necessarily better than average. The room was of a decent size and had some outdoor yard space as well. Some of the signs that it was not a premium luxury hotel is that there were minor stains on bed sheets and I saw a small spider in a folded towel. It could happen anywhere and I was not outraged but clearly expectations should not be for a top end hotel with high standards. For the welcome amenity I had some fruits and a half bottle of local red wine. Dining Similarly to the room, I thought breakfast was on par with LM standards, I was not wowed but I was also not disappointed either. The restaurant seemed a bit quiet considering they told me the hotel was 60% full. There was a buffet but it was not self-serve. Room service prices were on the high side, reflecting that guests are mostly captive on the resort. Restaurants in Bodrum city center are a fraction of the price but location has some impact on the price of F&B at LM which should be expected so I did not think it was out of line. Hotel Facilities The beach was very nice given local standards; LM can be a good match for people who value beaches. Not all hotels in Bodrum have great beaches for example Amanruya is not overly impressive but clearly the beach is not a weakness at LM. The outdoor pool was another story and was actually quite small. For people who like pools, interestingly it’s not the outdoor pool which was the highlight of the hotel, it was the indoor pool. Many resorts in Bodrum are only open 6 months per year but LM is open year-round so it’s fitting that they have a great indoor pool with fantastic sea views. Given that room rates in the winter can be lower than 150 EUR per night compared to 400-500 EUR in the summer, for me that’s the sweet spot for this resort: people who intend to travel to Bodrum in the off season at very low price when there is limited hotel competition and people who want to use a pool in chilly weather. Wifi Wifi worked well with speeds of 20 Mbps. Overall Overall I find it difficult to compare LM to EDITION or Caresse (Luxury Collection) because the price point is completely different. That said, I personally would prefer to pay extra for EDITION because it’s a superior hotel and worthy of a price premium. That said, for people on a budget LM is decent and I could recommend it. But in the winter when alternatives are limited with many hotels closed, I think LM is a very solid choice and more of a stand-out.
