I for one love the windows on the 787. I just want UA to tell their FAs to quit trying to take control of the windows. Some passengers want to look out the windows, especially when the captain has announced over the intercom a particularly interesting sight (happened to me as we were passing over Greenland and the FA kept dimming my window).
I can see one attempt to dim the windows as perhaps the FA didn't want to disturb passengers by going through the captain to ask the window passenger to dim it but if s/he dims it and the passenger opens it back up, take that as a sign that the paying customer wants to actually look out the window.
They have been told to stop locking windows. If they do lock ring the call button ask them to unlock, if they refuse then write in
