When CBP at an airport is using the biometric “simplified arrival” process, CBP may go away from the use of MPC. This is why some airports/terminals in this quarter in 2021 have reports of MPC not being allowed/turned off/removed even while at other times before or after such reported travels other travelers — or even the same travelers on a different day —- at the same airport/terminal have been able to use MPC.
Also, it seems to me that some in CBP wanted to try to position CBP itself to nudge out private sector player Airside Mobile, the original MPC app provider, and its much later MPC app competitor Clear in favor of a government-supplied MPC app from CBP itself. Airside Mobile’s free MPC app still works with more US ports of entry than Clear’s and CBP’s MPC apps do jointly and separately.
