For almost a decade, I was the guy that bought a $59 black soft-shell roll-aboard from the nearest Samsonite outlet. If a wheel or zipper broke, I just went and bought another. I'd buy a new bag every other year, max.
Samsonite stopped making what I wanted (two wheeled, soft shell, cheap). Additionally, I'd advanced in my career and grew up a bit. I thought I'd treat myself. I bought a 2-wheeled soft-shell Briggs and Riley that was stunning. Better zippers, better wheels, etc. It literally cost 10x as much as the Samsonite and it came with a lifetime warranty.
Two things made me return it... the non-removable suiter that ate up more space than expected, and the mental block I have with a 10x price difference for something I treat as a commodity.
I found a nice compromise on Poshmark... A very gently used Kirkland (Costco) soft-shell, 2-wheeled pull behind. It was $80. So far, it's perfect.
