JAL 787-9 Sky Suites III seat question

Hi, this version has 1-2-1 configuration in reverse herringbone pattern Sky Suites III. We are traveling KIX/LAX as a couple and have been discouraged from getting the two middle seats as told it is difficult to communicate with each other and would have to cross over to the other aisle to actually get near each other. Is this correct? We could get two singles, but DH prefers a single plus the across the aisle seat in the middle. Just making sure this is best for a couple? And don't want the person in the middle section to be too close to "adjacent" middle section person.
Do we have the correct information? Or are the middle two pods of 1-2-1 configuration just fine for a couple? We are currently in 5GK but could go back to middle seats of 5DG. There are only 7 rows in biz class on this version of 787-9. Thanks in advance!! (We are biz class novices in case you couldn't tell!)
